JACCARD

Swiss artist, born in Geneva, Philippe JACCARD's works have only been rarely exhibited. The new exhibition at Galerie Breitenmoser.art allows us to (re)discover the astonishing and abundant work of this artist with an impetuous character.

It is a limited collection of JACCARD's enormous work, which is nevertheless representative of his artistic approach, both in terms of the recurring themes of his work and his pictorial gesture and research on chromatic effects.

If Philippe JACCARD is a self-taught and tormented artist, he is above all inspired and fascinated by the great modern and contemporary artists of art history. He tries to tame them and understand them by getting closer to their artistic approach to the point of conceptualisation. He enjoys revisiting them with his lively and frenetic brush strokes, but it is in his world that he takes us. A world populated by portraits and self-portraits, still lifes, views in which chairs, vases, flowers mark out our path in the meanderings of his thought.

In JACCARD's painting, intensity is everywhere; in the colour which goes from the luminosity of a powerful blue to the intensity of a black coming from the darkness. Is this a reflection of his state of mind or of his vision of the world and of human tragedy?

Certainly, JACCARD channels his emotions, his creative force and his energy into the act of painting. He works the paint in matter which he sometimes applies in successive thick layers or in flat areas to which he gives relief and life.
