LAYAZ

Alphonse
LAZAZ

Alphonse Layaz is a man with many strings to his bow: painter, writer, poet, journalist and certainly more...

The subject of predilection in his paintings (which is also the title of one of his books) :

WOMAN(S), whom he likes to represent in their simplest attire.

He magnifies their beauty, without caricaturing them as supermodels.

Vivid colours, but applied with softness; faces that are justly suggested and expressive at the same time; a raw side in the finishing of his canvases which are often reworked many times; are paradoxes which are perhaps part of the secrets of this artist with mischievous eyes and the verb chosen to convey his love of women in all simplicity.

It is precisely these paradoxes that make Alphonse Layaz and his works so unique: "a true man of genius always retains the simplicity of a child" (Chinese proverb) or, as a genius would say, "simplicity is the supreme sophistication" (Leonardo da Vinci).
